Pro Bono
In addition to our commitment to our business and non-profit clients, TLJ believes that as citizen-attorneys we also have a commitment to serve the public welfare. TLJ takes this obligation to our community seriously and seeks to find ways our attorneys can assist those who would otherwise be unable to seek justice on a pro bono basis. The Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia, in its 2007 Annual Report, recognized TLJ's pro bono work with the headline "Small Firm Makes Big Pro Bono Commitment."
Through its ongoing relationship with the D.C. Legal Aid Society, TLJ lawyers represent social security disability applicants in hearings before administrative law judges. TLJ lawyers have successfully guided clients through the Social Security Administration bureaucracy, helping those who have disabling conditions receive the assistance they need and deserve. All TLJ attorneys, from partners to associates, are encouraged to participate in this program.
In addition to providing pro bono legal assistance, TLJ lawyers serve their communities through service opportunities of their own choice as well as through firm-related activities. For example, TLJ attorneys and staff have provided and served dinner as part of the Samaritan Inns Dinner Fellowship Program, which provides meals to formerly homeless men committed to rebuilding their lives. TLJ attorneys and family participate in the Lawyers Have Heart 10K, an annual fundraiser for the American Heart Association, and the firm provides support to the Washington Area Women's Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls in and around Washington, D.C.
