Our Practice

Pro Bono

In addition to our commitment to our business and non-profit clients, LJW believes that as citizen-attorneys we also have a commitment to serve the public welfare. LJW takes this obligation to our community seriously and seeks to find ways our attorneys can assist those who would otherwise be unable to seek justice on a pro bono basis. In 2010, the Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia recognized LJW’s commitment to pro bono service, naming it small-firm Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year.

Through its ongoing relationship with the D.C. Legal Aid Society, LJW lawyers represent social security disability applicants in hearings before administrative law judges. LJW lawyers have successfully guided clients through the Social Security Administration bureaucracy, helping those who have disabling conditions receive the assistance they need and deserve. All LJW attorneys, from partners to associates, are encouraged to participate in this program.

In addition to providing pro bono legal assistance, LJW lawyers and staff serve their communities through service opportunities of their own choice as well as through firm-related activities. For example, several times a year, LJW attorneys and staff prepare and deliver hundreds of box lunches to SOME (So Others Might Eat) for distribution to the poor and homeless of Washington, D.C.
